The Social Network
We spent a portion of the day today at work to watching the Social Network… and to see how far Facebook had come in a short amount of time, compared to how far Epic WebStudios has come in a little under 2 years is kind of amazing to me.
I remember looking at the initial Facebook when it was first allowing my high school to register accounts, and being one of the first at my school to register, I saw no interest in the site at all. There wasn’t much to do, and not much to see. I kind of abandoned it for MySpace. It wasn’t until the “Status” section came into play that I saw any value of Facebook. It has obviously grown since then, and became my main focal point (as well as most of the worlds) as it killed off MySpace, and became the hub for pretty much anything social on the web.
Just looking at the growth and expansion, and comparing it to my own “capitalist” growth through my company, it shows me the possibility of where things can go, along with how much further we have yet to grow. Primarily standing in the Erie metro area currently, but looking to expand shortly into the Pittsburgh market (hopefully opening a Pittsburgh “branch” shortly), it shows that with the right outlook and continuing to push new ideas and technology across to our clients, we have a lot yet to achieve. I cannot wait to grow and continue to expand what my company is and what it can do, both for me, and how far of a reach we can obtain.
We have some extremely bright prospective ideas and oportunities sitting on our doorstep right now, and if some of these play out, I cannot even fathom the growth both the company and me, myself, will see in the next coming months.
Regardless, watching the movie gets me inspired to continue to grow personally, and to keep looking for new directions to take the company to continue to monetize and expand, in any way possible.
It’s rare that a movie, or other companies themselves, can inspire me to work. I’m pretty good at keeping to the grind, and the prospect of going into “adulthood” after finishing up my last semester in college kind of solidifies the fact that I need to continue to make this work, and to maintain my income, along with provide for others. It’s kind of startling to think about, but the true process of becoming an adult, which I have pushed off for years, is happening, and to look back, has been happening for almost 2 years now. It’s amazing how far I have come from creating the non-existant company in my room back in 2004, to where it is today, as a registered company with offices and fellow people working with me. It’s still something that looking back on just boggles my mind.
